Ideas for White Kitchens
White kitchens are a design staple. However, anything that we see over and over again really does become repetitive and boring. There’s a way to connect this just by keeping within neutral color palettes and really making sure they you still get white kitchens that are very dynamic.
White kitchens allow you to use a lot of the appliances that you already own. However, you can mix it up by bringing in a Harlequin pattern. This can either be very contemporary or very French in feeling. In this case, you could paint the pattern on your walls. Another option would be to just lay your tile in this dramatic pattern instead of going for more of a classic checkerboard kind of design style.
One element of design that we are seeing a lot of right now is going to be the idea of layers. This is especially important when you’re decorating with a monochromatic color palette. For instance, you can put different dishtowels on top of each other. Try softening up blinds with a valance. Bring in a cornice box. Display your plates vertically instead of all stacked inside of glass cabinet. You can also have different stands in different sizes and colors. This idea of layering allows you to use a lot of what you already have but give it a totally new look.
Another really important element for white kitchens is going to be some natural element to keep it from seeming too stark and cold. This could be cork flooring. It could be a sleek backsplash for more of the modern look. It could still be quite traditional if it was in a harlequin kind of pattern. Even if you try marble then this can be the base for your entire kitchen design because a lot of the Carrera marble does have white in it. However it also has gray. You could use this on your walls or your cabinets for more of a neutral choice and you are also going to create white kitchens that look like it came right out of the designer magazines.
Quality is really important especially if you’re going with black and white kitchens. Every detail is really going to show. In this case, you may want to go with upgraded cabinetry. Right now we are seeing a lot of smaller drawer sizes. These can be purely decorative. You can also go for oversized panes of glass. The great thing about using this color of cabinet is that it is so durable but you want to make sure that it’s still interesting as well.
One problem that you might run into is picking the hardware out for white cabinet doors. Since this is so neutral you can really try to focus on the door handles to create your theme. You can do this with a lot of silver tones for a modern look. You can also try to go with iron tones for a country look.
If you have a small kitchen then a white kitchen table works well. Right now vintage metal chairs are very popular and very expensive. This way you can still make sure that you get a focal point because your table won’t distract from it. Remember the key to decorating these rooms is texture.
Antique Kitchen Cabinets
You can also change this up slightly. A great way to do this would be to go with a china inspired wallpaper. This is going to compliment antique white kitchen cabinets beautifully. This has a sense of whimsy and it uses a very traditional motif in a very contemporary kind of way. Since this does make this such a dramatic statement just keep it in a very small area such as in your kitchen nook. Hanging plates on the walls is traditional but doing it in this way is totally whimsical and fun. It’s going to bring in all different kinds of accent colors but still has a lot of white in it as well.
