Kitchen tile ideas should be fairly neutral. Even if this is a DIY project it’s probably something that you won’t be able to afford or want to undertake for several years. Really white ceramic tile is something that we don’t see in high end design a lot anymore. Instead, you might want to try inexpensive tile decals over your existing ceramic for a much more modern look. If you do want an actual mural piece then consider more of a tumbled marble look. In fact, this can just even be different sculpted accent tiles that you place together. This is a more subtle way to bring in a wine theme or even a fruit and vegetable kind of look instead of going with true handpainting.
However handpainting still does have its place. You might want to go with more of a seamless look that depicts a landscape. This is important if your room lacks a lot of windows. Really you can find one that replicates fine art prints but still has a lot of neutral colors in it.

In a lot of farmhouse kitchens are going to seem more of a vintage kind of design style and tile might not initially seem like it would work in this room. Traditionally this was used on vintage floors but now we are seeing a big return to it on backsplashes. In fact, you can even find it in modern stainless steel. Another option would be to go with a glazed porcelain version. This is going to bring in a lot of the aquas or greens that we see in mosaic glass tile in a much more antique kind of way. Playing around with shapes can even make a basic white tile very interesting.
Ideas for Ceramic Kitchen Tile
There are several advantages to ceramic kitchen tile. It’s inexpensive and easy to clean. And not can have a lot of the maintenance like you would with stone. However, this also makes it very common so it’s hard to really make a statement with these pieces. A great way to get around this would be to go with a checkerboard pattern on your backsplash. You might want to stick wit ah classic black and white palette or just change it up to plain white. This still keeps it neutral. You can set it in a harlequin kind of pattern to create a lot of diamond shapes. This can even be very French inspired. It also allows you to coordinate all of your appliances and cabinet colors together.
You also see a lot of ceramic materials that mimic stone. Since this is so common especially on flooring again, you need to focus on changing up the actual shape of the items. You could go for a standard size on your floor to save money and then go with a coordinating color but in a totally different shape such as a subway tile or even a mosaic version.
