Usually this is a very sleek kind of design. However, you can take it into a more modern rustic kind of direction but you need to make sure that it still is going to be a more contemporary take on the rustic design style. Sage green walls are a fantastic option for this. It’s going to be a subtle enough color that isn’t going to be too jarring against the light colors of cabinetry. Add in sparkle with oversized kitchen island lighting and a tin backsplash.

You can also make this feel very modern. White is going to be the staple for this design style. However, this can be a little bit too neutral when paired with maple cabinetry. You can counteract this just by going with an oversized stainless steel range hood. It will match almost any color of tile or countertop but you do need to make sure that you are still making really grand statements with the silhouettes of the rest of your layout or else the room is going to feel a little bit too plain.

Another direction that you can take this into is going to be more of that Tuscan kitchen design. This has a slightly warm color to it. This means that you can go with a lot of yellow or even orange wall colors. This works better in larger spaces. If you aren’t thrilled with the color of your cabinets then try going with a monochromatic kitchen. You could even just try going with clay red tiles on your flooring. Hang copper pots from a pot rack. Paint the walls in a tan if you’re afraid of orange.

You can also use this as an opportunity to do more of a modern take on your typical theme rooms. We are seeing mosaic tiles instead of a lot of the colorful Spanish patterns or modern glass square tiles. We are also seeing more of those abstracts designs but usually just be in one color palette with similar grout tones. This is perfect if you want to bring a slightly updated Spanish feeling into your room. In this case, you can stay with a true Southwest but keep your walls white along with the warmth cabinets. Add architectural details to them whether it’s with a salvaged kitchen island or ceiling beams.

The nautical design style usually uses a lot of white cabinetry. However, if your cabinets have a slight gray glaze to them then this can still work quite beautifully. Paint your walls a slate blue which is going to be a little bit more contemporary than your basic cobalt blue versions. The wall color is really going to be the focal point of your space even if it is quite pale. This means that you don’t need to spend a lot of money on expensive backsplashes, or countertops as long as you have neutral versions in your room already.
