Kitchen Color Trends: 2011 Ideas

It can be a little bit difficult to keep up every year with the kitchen color trends. 2011 is featuring much more subtle colors. This has a lot to do with the are popular farmhouse kitchens that are really appearing in apartments and even in cities.

If you want to know what the trendiest color for the year is going to be than Pantone is going to dictate this. The color for the year for 2011 was honeysuckle which is a pretty bright pink. Usually the kitchen is a family gathering space so it can be difficult to bring in such a gender specific tone. You probably want to stay away from this on your walls just because it can look a little bit garish. Instead, look for subtle accents on china. You can also use this in your floral arrangements. You could even take pictures of peonies in your garden and use them as new kitchen art.

You can also bring in the trendy tone just on your furniture choices. We are seeing a lot of upholstered chairs. This was also a pretty popular color in retro design so you could just use it on a chrome dinette set. This will still relate back to your stainless steel appliances. Remember when you bring in these trendy colors you want to make sure that they are also pretty easy to take out when another color comes into play. You also want to make sure that you truly love the tone and aren’t just trying to keep up with the most popular decorating choices.

Trendy Colours for Kitchens

Really the must have tone for this year is going to be gray. We are seeing it as wall colors. It’s also appearing as cabinet tones. This does create a very soothing effect. You might want to still bring in some bright accent colors just so there is a little bit of energy in the space. If you have dated wood cabinetry or your white cabinet seem a little bit stark then this can be an interesting tone to play around with.

You also might want to consider this for your countertops. Slate counters have really come onto the scene. We are seeing a lot of slate slabs instead of your typical tiles. Sleek tiles include lots of oranges and blues, but these slate slabs can just be a sleek gray color.

Since slate is such a classic material you can get away with using a trendy color on it. We are seeing a lot of rectangular sleek tiles. We are also seeing different variations of gray instead of more of the patchwork effect that was popular a few years ago with all different kinds of slate tones to it. This is going to be one of the more subtle ways that you can bring in this trendy decorating color.

You also might want to consider gray for your trim. This is something that you can use on your cabinetry or your walls. You can use it to have a ceiling medallion or a tray ceiling. Going with a darker trim color and staying away from white contrast trim this will have more of a retro or vintage effect. In fact it’s a way that you can even work with pale pink walls but still give your room a slightly more masculine touch.

When you’re decorating with trendy colors you can also try to bring in trendy patterns as well. Houndstooth as well as damask patterns are very in style right now. You can use this just on a few of your cupboards or to recover your seat cushions. These should be pretty easy patterns to find but you want to keep it in a tone on tone effect. This is perfect if you’re really into the shabby chic kind of design style. You could even mix in different gray fabrics on each chair. It’s still going to be somewhat gender neutral even though you’re using pretty feminine patterns just because of your color choice.

Kitchen Colors 2010

Kitchen colors for 2010 were a little bit more dramatic. We saw a lot of black cabinetry. Turquoise was one of the signature colors for the year and it appeared on everything from cabinets as well as wall colors. It was also very popular in mosaic glass backsplashes. Of course, you probably don’t want to go through an entire remodel every single year. However, you can still soften these ideas just by bringing in a lot of gray barstools. You’re also going to really want to paint out some of your cabinetry in a lighter gray or just focus it in on your furniture choices. This is going to help to tone down the brighter turquoise colors and really update it for this year.
