Need a room makeover? Then try new kitchen colors. Pictures can help you to visualize how you can change up what you already have. This is much more affordable than replacing appliances or changing your floorplan. Here are a few of my favorite photos that use these concepts with a Creative Commons license.
1. The Daring Librarian’s CC Photo is one of the more successful red kitchens that I’ve ever seen. I love the rich wood cabinets as well as just a hint of wallpaper. The rug on the floor ties the whole thing together and I don’t know if it was the inspiration for the whole room. Usually I think of red as being very modern but this is just a traditional room that’s elegant too and uses lots of high end materials. If I would’ve had that color of cabinet I would have gone with a neutral taupe paint, especially in a small room, but that would’ve created a lot of contrast. I would have been wrong and have never been more tempted by red walls.
2. This is one of the more neutral kitchen pictures. White cabinets are still interesting when paired with a multi level island and oversized pendant lights. This is a farmhouse kitchens look from Atlanta Scott with a little bit of a modern flair. It looks like it’s right out of a design magazine and should probably be in one. It’s one of the chicest country kitchen pictures I’ve ever seen. The key here is that almost every neutral item is interesting and high end.
3. I’ve always been a little bit skeptical of purple kitchens. However, Ilovebutter proved me wrong with this one. The apron front sink and glass cabinets really elevate this color. At the same time the wall color balances out the more traditional granite countertops and stainless steel appliances for a room that’s fun and sophisticated at the same time. Instead of thinking “Purple?” I just look at it and think “Wow, pretty”.
4. I love orange, but most Tuscan kitchen pictures are a little bit bright for me. This CC photo from Kelly Brian uses all of the warm tones that are so inherent in Italian kitchens but makes it a lot more neutral by focusing on material. I saw it and thought “Wow, orange look at you all fancy”. It uses a lot of warm tones but you can’t really classify it as orange, only beautiful. It’s carefully balances with lots of other neutral tones and varying degrees of amber.
So now that you have lots of inspiration, break out that paint brush!
