Kitchen Theme Ideas

Kitchen theme ideas have really been toned down a lot in the last few years. It’s not just going to rely on a lot of cutesy accessories anymore. Instead, now you’re going to see much more subtle looks where the theme really flows throughout the entire room. It’s not going to be an in your face obvious theme. This is also important just because then it helps you to really customize your room even if you’re using the same theme that a lot of other people are.

If you have an unusual kitchen theme then it’s important to just bring this into your room in your artwork. Sometimes going with more daring materials on countertops or flooring doesn’t always pay off in the end. You can always change out paint colors if you go to sell your house. You want to keep the main pieces in your room pretty neutral.

Vintage Themes for Kitchens

Vintage themes for kitchens are going to allow you to use a lot of the appliances that you already own. This can be the perfect starting point for you if you have marble countertops or even wood or laminate floors. Sometimes it’s best to really base your theme around what is already in the room. You can still give it an entirely new look.

Some of the signature colors for this kind of room are going to be white or ivory. This is perfect to salvage your cabinetry. You really want it to have the look of a farmhouse kitchens where nothing is too dark. You also want to go for chrome light fixtures and drawer pulls or you can skip these altogether if you do have any glass in your cabinet doors. It should really just be plain. Stained glass can look a little bit dated but if the workmanship is really spot on then you can still work around this or pull your color palettes out from this. This is important just because stained glass and oak cabinetry were quite popular a few years ago but now it looks horribly dated. Instead, you can just paint the cabinets in a lighter tone and this is going to change the entire look of the stained glass.

Kitchen Themes and Décor

Just a few years ago we were seeing kitchens that were based on specific countries such as France or Italy. Now we are seeing more of a world traveler kind of look. We see lots of layers of jewel tones. This almost has a Moroccan vibe to it. However, it still may have a wooden farmhouse style table to it. You can layer on lots of textiles. This allows you to shop at thrift stores or just buy remnants of fabric from your local fabric shop. You can use these to recover your seats or turn them into napkins or even a patchwork style window treatment. This collected look brings in a lot of color so you need to make sure that you have a neutral base. This is the perfect way to add life to a kitchen with lighter ceramic tile and even laminate countertops. You don’t always have to go with granite if you can’t afford it.

It’s also very popular to base your design on the material. Kitchen wallpaper ideas have really gone away from your basic border. Instead, we are seeing larger prints used in kitchen nooks. Remember that you probably want to keep it away from a lot of steam and grease.

The other really inventive idea is going to be to the idea of this on the back of shelves or hutches. This allows you to repurpose a lot of the ugly 1970s heavy wood pieces that you see and really give it the look of farmhouse kitchens with a little bit of paint and wallpaper.

One of the bigger trends right now is to go with more of that vintage or even more traditional and elegant design styles with your kitchen wallpaper. This is going to include a lot of palm fronds or even Art Deco designs. However, we are going to see a lot of more neutral color palettes just so that it doesn’t overwhelm your entire room.
